We Will Soon Prosecute NNPC Crooks, Buhari Assures

BUHARI-SPEAKS-AT-UNOn a day the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, was giving journalists in Lagos assurance that the corporation was not broke and will come good in the coming days, President Muhammadu Buhari in New York assured the Chinese President Xi Jinping that the Prosecution of those who looted the resources of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation during the previous administrations will commence soon.

Buhari reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption at the meeting with the Chinese President on the side line of the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York. He said his government was determined to clean the oil industry of shady deals and other forms of corruption.

He said as a first step he appointed a new management team headed by Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu to reorganise the NNPC.

He said “the prosecution of those who misappropriated the NNPC revenue under past administrations will soon commence”.

President Buhari thanked China for the interception of shiploads of crude oil stolen from Nigeria and which were to be sold and proceeds paid into private accounts.

He said ‘We know your stand on corruption and we are grateful. Your continued cooperation in curbing oil theft from Nigeria will be appreciated.

He told President Xi Jinping that the military has made gains in the fight against Boko Haram. President Xi Jinping said China will increase its investment in Agriculture, oil and gas in Nigeria. He said China is involved in the development of Nigeria in the area of construction of Airports, railways, Agriculture and the Mambilla power project.
