The Ondo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized over 5,356 kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested 59 suspects, comprising 52 males and seven females, in connection with various drug-related offenses over the past two months.

The State Commander, Mr. Gabriel Folayemi, disclosed the operational achievements on Tuesday during a press briefing in Akure, highlighting the agency’s recent crackdown on drug trafficking networks in the state.

According to Folayemi, the major seizures executed since he assumed office on July 24 include:

Cannabis Sativa: 5,356.705 kg recovered, along with the destruction of a four-hectare cannabis farm.

Methamphetamine: 77.3 grams intercepted.

Psychotropic Substances: 299 grams confiscated.

Folayemi detailed several sophisticated concealment methods uncovered by operatives during the operations, notably:

Modified Fuel Tanker: A 20,000-litre-capacity fuel tanker carrying petroleum products to Jos, Plateau State, was intercepted with a hidden compartment containing 2,145 kg of Cannabis Sativa.

Canter Truck Interception: A Mitsubishi Canter truck carrying 159 bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing approximately 1,667 kg was impounded.

Container Truck Concealment: A 40-foot container truck conveying dairy products to northern Nigeria was found carrying 52 concealed bags of cannabis.

Passenger Vehicle Haul: A Toyota Camry carrying over 210 kg of cannabis in its boot was intercepted along the Itaogbolu axis.

“No matter the level of sophistication or concealment employed, the command remains determined and capable of uncovering illicit operations and bringing perpetrators to justice,” Folayemi warned, emphasizing that Ondo State will not serve as a safe haven for traffickers.

The command confirmed that detailed investigations are ongoing to dismantle the broader criminal networks involved, adding that all culpable individuals will face prosecution under the NDLEA Act. Folayemi commended the officers for their professionalism and urged the public to assist law enforcement with actionable intelligence.
