Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation HADIN KAI, alongside the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), successfully repelled a heavy assault by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The insurgents launched the aggressive attack while security forces were actively conducting ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the general area. Ground troops held their positions and unleashed heavy fire, preventing the attackers from breaching or overrunning the military installation.

Key Highlights of the Engagement

Joint Operations: Air support from Operation HADIN KAI provided critical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) coverage to direct ground forces and execute precision airstrikes on the fleeing terrorists.

Local Support: Members of the CJTF assisted ground troops with real-time local intelligence to enhance situational awareness throughout the gun battle.

Casualties: One soldier suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm during the firefight. He was evacuated, stabilized, and remains in stable condition.

Ongoing Counter-Measures: Troops have initiated exploitation and cleanup operations across Pulka to recover abandoned weaponry, assess enemy casualties, and track retreating insurgent elements.

Following the failed assault, the terrorists were forced to retreat under heavy pressure. Military positions throughout Pulka remain fully secured, with security forces conducting heightened patrols to deny remnants of the group freedom of movement.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), commended the bravery and joint coordination of the forces.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace to the North East and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to nearby security formations.
