Rivers: Wike projected to win by very wide margin

Admin April 2, 2019

Governor Nyesom Wike.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is coasting home to a landslide victory in the March 9 Governorship election which collation was continued today by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced results from some local government areas at the collation centre in Port Harcourt.
In Obior/Akpor, Wike polled 307,117 votes while the closest rival, AAC polled 3,010 votes. The African Action Congress (AAC) is being supported by Mr Rotimi Amaechi, minister of Transportation and former governor of Rivers State.
Amaechi also lost his local government, Ikwerre, to the incumbent governor and gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Nyesom Wike. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 14, 938 while the African Action Congress (AAC) polled 5, 660.
PDP also won Port Harcourt local government area with 40, 197 votes, and AAC polled 11, 866. The candidate of AAC, Mr. Awara Biokpomabo, had earlier boasted that his party would clinch victory and sack Wike from Government House.
In Bonny LGA PDP polled 10,551 votes to AAC’s 3,046 votes. Andoni LGA PDP polled 92,056 votes to AAC’s 5,335.
All the LGAs results so far released projects AAC as no match to the PDP in Rivers State.
From all indications, the victory margin could be so much that INEC may not require results from the remaining two LGAs where elections did not hold to declare the winner.
