LAWMA Seals Markets, Plazas in Ayobo-Ipaja Crackdown on Indiscriminate Waste Dumping

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified its sanitation enforcement across the Ayobo-Ipaja axis, sealing several non-compliant markets and plazas following repeated environmental violations and failure to adhere to waste management directives.

The enforcement operation, carried out on Sunday by the LAWMA Project WISE team under the Ikeja West District, targeted defaulting commercial establishments in the area. Affected facilities include Rock of Age Plaza, Ajerogun I Market, Ayobo Market, and Oba Plaza, all situated within Ayobo.

LAWMA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, confirmed that the exercise is part of a broader intervention aimed at clearing waste backlogs, curbing illegal dumping, and preventing the re-emergence of waste black spots.

Facilities Sealed: Rock of Age Plaza, Ajerogun I Market, Ayobo Market, Oba Plaza.

Cleared Locations: Accumulated waste was evacuated from Oluwaga Bus Stop by Sawmill, Ayobo Road median near Rainoil, Atan Nla by TCN, Ayobo Police Post, Megida Bus Stop, among others.

Focus Areas: Combining routine waste evacuation with sustained monitoring and strict enforcement.

Dr. Gbadegesin stressed that maintaining a clean environment requires joint effort, urging residents, traders, and business owners to refrain from illegal dumping and exclusively patronize assigned Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators. He warned that LAWMA will maintain zero tolerance for individuals and businesses that undermine state environmental laws.
