Troops on duty
The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has reported a sharp increase in the number of Boko Haram and ISWAP elements surrendering to Nigerian troops, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign across the North East.
According to a statement released Monday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for the Theatre Command, weekly surrenders jumped dramatically from over 50 fighters and affiliates last week to more than 150 in the current week.
Among those disengaging are high-ranking terrorist commanders, combatants, and key logistics affiliates.
Military officials attribute the surge to a relentless combination of sustained, intelligence-led kinetic strikes and strategic non-kinetic operations.
The intensified pressure has severely crippled the insurgents’ freedom of movement, disrupted their supply lines, and eroded their ability to retain personnel within their enclaves.
A significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the surrendering fighters, further neutralizing the operational capability of the hostile networks.
“The surge in surrenders demonstrates the growing effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI’s comprehensive counter-insurgency approach,” Capt. Goni stated. He emphasized that strategic communication, robust civil-military engagement, and targeted messaging have been instrumental in weakening hostile narratives and encouraging insurgents to lay down their arms.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their resilience and operational discipline, charging them to maintain the current momentum and deny the remaining remnants any freedom of action.
All surrendering elements are currently being profiled, documented, and processed in full compliance with established international procedures and applicable domestic laws.
Military authorities reaffirmed their resolve to sustain maximum pressure on terrorist structures to restore lasting peace and security to the region.
