The Police Command in Kaduna State has detained a couple over the alleged death of a teenage boy following an incident in the Kurmin-Mashi area of Kaduna metropolis.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the development and said investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Hassan said the incident occurred on Sunday night along Dahiru Road in Kurmin-Mashi and involved a boy identified as Sadiq.

According to him, preliminary information indicated that the teenager was allegedly subjected to punishment by his mother and stepfather over a dispute relating to missing money.

He said the police received reports that the boy had been sent to withdraw money from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator before questions later arose over the transaction.

“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the next line of action,” he said.

Residents of the area told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident had generated concern within the community.

Some witnesses alleged that neighbours and community members attempted to intervene during the incident and appealed for restraint.

Others said efforts were also made to resolve the matter peacefully.

The residents expressed shock over the teenager’s death and called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Police authorities urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their findings, assuring that appropriate action would be taken in line with the law.(NAN)
