The Police Command in Jigawa State has arrested a 25-year-old nurse and a 20-year-old female suspect in connection with the abduction of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy from Babura General Hospital.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the arrests in a statement released Friday in Dutse.
Child Abduction Scheme Foiled
According to the command, the arrest followed a distress call from the hospital’s pediatric ward reporting the child missing. Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives intercepted the 20-year-old female suspect at the outskirts of Babura town while in possession of the child.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of her alleged accomplice, a male nursing officer attached to the health facility.
During interrogation, the female suspect confessed to planning to transport the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State, where she intended to sell him for .
The rescued child is currently in protective custody and will be reunited with his family following standard administrative procedures. Investigations remain ongoing to identify any additional accomplices.
Armed Robbery Attempt Thwarted in Dutse
In a separate incident, operatives from the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) foiled an armed robbery attempt along the Dutse axis.
During a routine patrol on Thursday, officers signaled an ash-colored Sharon Galaxy vehicle (Reg. No. ABC 440 KJ) carrying seven suspicious occupants to pull over. The driver ignored the signal and fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit that ended at Baranda bush.
The suspects engaged officers in a gunfight before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into the surrounding terrain.
One suspect was found injured inside the vehicle following the shootout. He was taken to a medical facility, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
The Police is continuing search operations in the surrounding bush to track down the six fleeing suspects.
Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tijjani Murtala, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism in both incidents.
He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to public safety and urged citizens to continue providing timely, actionable intelligence to support crime prevention efforts.
