The Police Command in Oyo State has rescued Daneri Alhaji Yaro, 17, kidnapped on Wednesday, and began a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
Yaro was abducted on Wednesday at Aladere Village, Ikoyi-Ile, near the Government Forest Reserve in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the rescue of the victim in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said the rescue operation was initiated following a distress report received from Alhaji Yaro Babuga, the victim’s father, at the Ikoyi-Ile Divisional Police Headquarters.
He said that the division’s personnel swiftly acted on the information.and mobilised a combined team comprising Police operatives, members of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters for rescue operation.
“Consequently, the joint security team commenced an intensive combing of the surrounding bushes and adjoining forest.
“The sustained pressure mounted by the operatives proved decisive, forcing the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee deeper into the Government Forest Reserve.
“The victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family,” Ayanlade said.
He said that the Command has intensified the pursuit of the fleeing suspects into the forest and surrounding areas in a bid to arrest members of the gang.
The command’s spokesman quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abimbola Olugbenga, as commending the synergy and professionalism exhibited during the operation by the Police, Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters.
