Obi in US with healthcare experts
Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to improving Nigeria’s healthcare system through expanded health insurance coverage, stronger primary healthcare services, and increased investment in healthcare personnel.
Obi disclosed this after a meeting with healthcare professionals and experts in the United States on Friday, June 5, 2026. According to him, the engagement was part of ongoing efforts to study successful healthcare models and explore ways of improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The former Anambra State governor said the discussions focused particularly on how effective health insurance systems can enhance access to quality healthcare, especially in primary and emergency care services.
He noted that a healthier population remains central to national development and emphasized that an NDC-led administration would prioritize reforms aimed at making healthcare more accessible and affordable for all Nigerians.
Obi stated that key health objectives of his administration would include expanding health insurance coverage, strengthening primary healthcare facilities across the country’s electoral wards, training more healthcare workers, and ensuring that quality healthcare is available to citizens regardless of their economic status.
He maintained that building a stronger healthcare system is essential to creating a healthier and more productive Nigeria.
