Misconduct: PSC dismisses 3 senior police officers, demotes 16 others

Admin November 4, 2026

PSC Chairman Hamishu Argungu

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and the demotion of 16 others over misconduct and conduct unbecoming of officers of the law.

PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Torty Kalu announced this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said ‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌the commission had also approved sanctions against 42 officers, and exonerated three others.

“In a major disciplinary sweep, 16 officers have been reduced in rank, 21 officers received severe reprimands, and two officers were issued ordinary reprimands.

“Meanwhile, three officers were exonerated from wrongdoing, and some previously suspended officers were reinstated into the force,” he said.

Kalu said the decisions were reached at the commission’s Plenary meeting presided over by its Chairman, Mr. Hashimu Argungu.

Argungu said the decisions were reaffirmation of the commission’s zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, meddling in land and civil matters, and other acts of misconduct in the force.

The PSC boss assured the public of the commission’s commitment to the speedy dispensation of disciplinary matters before it.

He commended the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters for its dedication and commitment throughout the departmental, committee, and plenary considerations of the disciplinary cases and appeals. (NAN)
