The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) following a deadly shooting incident that claimed the life of a young girl, Omole Taiwo, and injured another in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle, Lagos.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday, disclosing that the tragedy occurred on Thursday night between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. during a police intervention.
According to Adebisi, the detained officer was part of a team dispatched to the scene following an urgent distress call regarding a violent conflict between two rival local gangs, the Nosamu Boys and the Alayabiagba Boys—who were engaged in a clash over toll collection.
”The rival groups were armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons,” Adebisi stated. “During the operation, the officer discharged his firearm, and the bullet struck the two girls.”
Both victims were immediately rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for emergency medical care. Taiwo was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja due to the severity of her injuries, where she later succumbed to her gunshot wounds. The second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition and is continuing to receive treatment.
In the wake of the incident, the police command has disarmed and detained the ASP. The case has been officially transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and impartial probe to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting and assign legal and disciplinary accountability.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Tijani, paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased to express his sympathies directly.
Tijani assured the bereaved family that the investigation would be conducted with total transparency and professionalism, emphasizing that any officer found guilty of wrongdoing would face the full weight of the law without exception.
The Lagos State Police Command extends its deep condolences to the family of Omole Taiwo and appeals to members of the public who possess relevant information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or contact the command’s Public Relations Department.
