Nigerians divided over Trump calling Buhari ‘lifeless’

Nigerians are divided in their reactions to US President, Donald Trump, reportedly describing Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari as “lifeless” after their historic meeting at the White House earlier this year.

Highly influential Financial Times had quoted White House sources as saying that Trump confided in his aides that he never “wanted to meet with somebody so lifeless again”. Trump is currently hosting Kenya’s  56-year-old Uhuru Kenyatta, the second African leader to visit the White House during Trump’s tenure.

Reno Omokri, the former presidential Spokesman taunted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for promoting a man regarded as lifeless by another President of the stature of Trump.

Reacting to Trump’s statement, Omokri said Buhari is the reason Nigeria’s economy is lifeless.

He, therefore, criticised APC for pushing Buhari for a second term.

Omokri tweeted: “So Donald Trump called Nigeria’s President Buhari “a lifeless person” and said, “I don’t want to meet him again”!

“This is the same person @OfficialAPCNg is promoting for a second term? No wonder our economy is so lifeless that 10 million Nigerians lost their jobs! ”

However, on social media, some Nigerians condemned the US President for using uncharitable words to describe a fellow leader. Some however said they were not surprised given the character of Trump which has seen him use vile words to describe a whole race and nations.
