LASG urges agric stakeholders to embrace technology

Admin September 26, 2019

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor, Lagos State

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, has called on stakeholders in the agricultural value chain to embrace technology in order to accelerate processes in the sector.

Olusanya said this during a meeting with revenue stakeholders of the Ministry on Thursday in Alausa, Ikeja.

She solicited the support and cooperation of all stakeholders in making the state a 21st century economy in line with the “THEMES” agenda of the state government.

The special adviser said agriculture was a major part of the process of making Lagos a 21st century economy because majority of Nigerians were farmers.

Olusanya said everybody had a role to play in the realisation of the objective.

“Agriculture is all about the entire value chain, and that is where a lot of us come in”.

“We are middlemen, regardless of the fact that we do not farm, but we ensure that food gets to the final consumers in one way or the other; thus, that is where each and every one of us fits in,” she said.

Olusanya said the state government was committed to the revitalisation of agriculture as a whole in order to attract more people into the sector.

She said that informed the convening of a stakeholders engagement to chart a roadmap for agriculture in the state.

“We need a lot of people to come into the space and make sure the space is an attraction.

“Some years back, football and entertainment were not attractive, but reverse is the case nowadays. We can do the same for agriculture,” the special adviser said.

Olusanya called for a mutual benefiting relationship between the stakeholders and the government.

She also stressed the need for them to continue to discharge their tax payment responsibilities to the state government in order to quicken the pace of development.

“We need to come together to arrive at a point that is beneficial for us. We listen to what our stakeholders have to say, and we then work on what they have said in order to deliver,” she said. (NAN)
