The Ministry of Works in Delta has trained no fewer than 100 engineers for enhanced service delivery of infrastructure in the state, an official has said.
The Commissioner (Highways and Urban), Mr Reuben Izeze, said this at the closing ceremony of the training held in Irri, Isoko South Local Government Area (LGA).
Izeze said that the workshop would enable the participants to key into the implementation of the State Government’s ”MORE Agenda”.
The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Fred Edafioghor, said the workshop was designed to equip the ministry engineers with better understanding of engineering skills.
According to him, this will help them to meet with the present day challenges in road construction.
Izeze said that the Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori led-administration was determined to embark on massive infrastructure development, especially roads.
He said that the governor was poised to open up more urban, rural and riverine towns in the state to ensure accelerated development.
The commissioner said that the State Government planned to carry out massive road projects for the greater development of the state.
“The workshop will enable the engineers to brace to the challenges ahead, learn some innovations and be able to overcome such challenges, using knowledge acquired at the workshop.
“The workshop is meant to prepare the engineers for the task ahead, as government expects a lot from them and a better result from the ministry.
”We realise that we need to continue to improve the knowledge and capacity of our engineers to deliver the mandate of the ministry.
”We had about six to seven lectures in all. We also went on site visit.
”I expect better performance and results from my engineers,” Izeze said.
Some of the participants, who spoke to newsmen on the sideline of the ceremony, said their orientation about road construction, especially in swampy and riverine areas, had been broadened.
“This had been a huge challenge for us whenever we had projects in those areas,” they said.
The Deputy Director (Urban), Mr Chris Gberevbie, thanked the commissioners for organising the workshop.
Gberevbie said that the engineers had been better informed about certain areas of engineering work that were unknown to them before the training. (NAN)
