APC Takes over Nigeria, Trounces PDP in Guber Polls, Wins 16 out of 19 States

Admin April 13, 2015

Gov tableThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has completed its dominance of Nigerian politics winning 16 of the 21 states governorship result released by INEC. From Kano through Kaduna to Katsina, the APC has shown super power and a clear stronger brand than the PDP.

The results across the nation still showed a voting pattern similar to the Presidential election with APC winning most of the Northern states and PDP showing strength in the South East and South South. This latest result from the guber and state Assembly polls has completed the defining moment in the polity, making the APC the dominant party while the PDP has to play the role of opposition and minority party both at the centre and in the number of states it controls.

The PDP however swept the seats in Ondo State where there was no governorship election. The victory means that Governor Segun Mimiko would be safe and dry without the fear of impeachment unlike his counterpart in Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, who is battling to save his job from an APC-dominated state Assembly.

Results from Abia and Rivers are still being awaited with cancellations in many wards and LGs due to violence and gross irregularities. Imo State result is inconclusive, says INEC.

In Delta Ifeanyi Okowa of the PDP was bullish, winning with a wide margin over the two other contenders Great Ogboru of Labour Party and O’rtega Emerhor of the APC whose performance was abysmal.
