The Anioma Media Professionals (AMP) has congratulated Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as Silverbird Man of the Year.
The group of media professionals from Delta North senatorial district recalled that Okowa is being similarly honoured by Vanguard newspapers and Independent newspapers later this month.
A statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of AMP, Mr. Ken Ugbechie, said Okowa deserved the honour because of his “matchless contribution to the development of Delta State.
“We are not surprised at the many awards coming to Governor Okowa. They testify to his sterling performance and his quest to bequeath a better and greater Delta to his people. The awards justify our position that Okowa has done well as Governor hence deserves re-election for a second term in office.”
An earlier statement by Silverbird Group said Governor Okowa emerged the Silverbird Man of the Year 2018 having secured the highest number of votes sent in by respondents.
He was nominated for ensuring peace and security in Delta State, youth empowerment, sports development, as well as infrastructure development, especially road construction, even in riverine communities, earning him the name “Roadmaster” .
The prestigious Silverbird Man of the Year award was instituted thirteen years ago to recognize individuals who have impacted positively on the lives of Nigerians through their chosen careers. Past winners of the award include late Professor Dora Akunyili, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Dr. Mike Adenuga, Adams Oshiomhole and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala. Others are Babatunde Fashola, Peter Obi, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Governor Willie Obiano and Governor Nyesom Wike.
The prestigious Silverbird Man of the Year award and other categories of awards will be conferred on the well-deserved recipients at a ceremony on February 3rd at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island , Lagos.
