The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that Mrs. Ebere Dim, the 47-year-old teacher accused of flogging a student to death in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area, has surrendered to law enforcement.

The incident, which occurred on July 16, initially prompted the suspect to go into hiding. However, a coordinated effort by the police and local leaders ultimately led to her turning herself in.

Following a sustained manhunt by the command’s Safe School Protection Squad (SSI) and officers from the Neni Divisional Police Station, Mrs. Dim voluntarily presented herself at the Neni station.

Community Cooperation: State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, credited the breakthrough to continuous engagement with Adazi-Ani stakeholders and community leaders.

Next Steps: The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

Police Assurance and Call for Calm
The command has formally assured the deceased student’s family and the general public that justice will be served transparently.

“The command further urged members of the public to remain calm, refrain from taking the law into their own hands, and continue to provide useful information that would aid ongoing investigations and other policing efforts across the state, ” SP Tochukwu Ikenga, PPRO

SP Ikenga concluded by commending the traditional institutions and residents of the Adazi-Ani community, noting that their proactive support was instrumental in bringing the suspect forward.
