A 28-year-old woman, Helen Dangana, was on Thursday arraigned in Kaduna for allegedly stealing her friend’s iPhone 11 and N180,000.

The Police charged Dagana with stealing but the resident of Gbagyi Villa in Kaduna, pleaded not guilty  before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant, Miss Chidinma Okoro, reported the matter at the Sabon Tasha Police Station on July 1.

Leo said that the defendant called the complainant to meet her in her (complainant’s) shop and that while they were together, the complainant decided to go and buy drinking water.

He alleged that while the complainant stepped out, the defendant stole her iPhone 11 worth N320, 000 and cash of N180, 000.

The prosecutor said that when the complainant noticed that her phone was missing, the defendant denied seeing the phone.

Leo said that the phone was later tracked to one Simon Pius, who confessed that the defendant sold it to him.

He alleged that during interrogation, the defendant admitted to have stolen the phone.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety in like sum.

Emmanuel also ordered that the surety must provide a recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.

He adjourned the case until July 31 for hearing. (NAN)
