DBI President, Prof. Mohammed Ajiya
The President of the Digital Bridge Institute, (DBI) Abuja, Prof. Mohammed Ajiya, has promised continued partnership with local and international stakeholders in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) sector to fight cyber terrorism against children.
Ajiya made the promise on Tuesday in Abuja at a workshop entitled “Child Online Protection: Consumer awareness on cyber crime. “
“We would continue to partner with the public and private sector, to protect children from abuse and develop them to fight for their rights in the context of ICT”.
“This partnership will further endorse the recommendations reached during a UN General Assembly of December 21, 2001. The stakeholders meeting is at aimed at protecting children online,’’ he said.
The one day workshop is organised by DBI in partnership with International Telecommunication union (ITU), a specialised agency of the United nations, responsible for issues concerning ICT, with the headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
DBI dwells in training people on communication and information communication technology (ICT).
Ajiya stated that as a capacity building institute, DBI was working with experts, industry players, government regulators and law enforcement agencies to explore ideas on tackling cybercrimes.
He said there was an urgent need to take actions that would strengthen the digital space and make it safe for children and youths who were easy targets through the social media.
The president of DBI also said that ICT played great role in the protection and development of children.
Later in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Ajiya also urged experts in cyberspace technology around the world to continue to bring their expertise to play in the fight against cyber crimes against humanity.
This, he said, they could by making sure that information available to children online is safe for their consumption.
