UNILAG Shut over Electrocution of First Class Female Student

Admin September 10, 2015

Oluchi AnekwePretty and dutiful, Oluchi Anekwe, a first class Accounting student of the University of Lagos, Akoka, was until her death on Sunday, a God-fearing, level-headed and intelligent student. Her peers said she could not hurt a fly but someone who loves to serve her God. She was on her way from church when the unexpected happened. She died from electrocution

Students of the University of Lagos, Akoka have staged a protest over the death of the 300 level student of Accounting. The students were protesting what they termed negligence of the UNILAG authorities when Oluchi Anekwe who was returning from church was electrocuted.

The high tension cable in front of Shodeinde hall snapped, dropped and hit her and she died instantly. Oluchi had a bright future and prospects are she was in the first class grade point average in her academic records but her life was cut short as help came a little late from the University medical personnel.

This infuriated the students who argued that Oluchi could have survived if the medical centre had acted promptly. They further said that the school authorities acted as though nothing had happened even when it was confirmed that she had died. The students said they expected the authorities to have issued statement to the effect that Oluchi died and that the school is in mourning. This they say would have gone a long way to assuage the students.

Meanwhile, the police have reacted quickly to save the school property and have restricted movement. No student is allowed into the school premises and those on campus had been asked to leave. The school is shut down, till further notice, the authorities said.
