The Kano State Government has finalized plans to establish military bases across frontline local government areas to bolster security and accelerate rapid response times to threats in vulnerable communities.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo-Othman, made the announcement on Tuesday while briefing newsmen in Kano.
According to Tajo-Othman, the initiative follows a strategic agreement between Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, and the Minister of Defence. The target areas specifically include local government councils that share boundaries with Katsina and Kaduna States, notably Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Rogo, and Shanono.
“The initiative is intended to strengthen security, improve rapid response to threats, protect communities, and enhance the safety of lives and property across the affected Local Government Areas,” Tajo-Othman stated, emphasizing that a permanent military presence in these border zones is essential for quick interventions during distress calls.
In a related development, the Commissioner commended Abubakar Kabir Bichi, the lawmaker representing the Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, for facilitating the installation of solar-powered streetlights across all 44 local government areas of the state. Tajo-Othman noted that improved public lighting serves as a vital complementary measure to ongoing security efforts.
