Barely 24 hours after Nigeria government lifted restrictions placed on its usage in the country, microblogging site, Twitter, said it’s pleased with the restoration of its operations.

“We are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria. Our mission in Nigeria and around the world is to serve the public conversation,” Twitter’s Public Policy team said in a tweet on Thursday.

Twitter added: “We are deeply committed to Nigeria, where Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement, and civic participation.”

The Nigerian government placed restriction on Twitter in the country since June 2021, seven months ago.

In announcing the lifting of the restriction, ICT regulator, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) said on Wednesday: “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12 am tonight.”

Nigeria’s active youth population has been active on Twitter and it used it to disseminate information during the EndSARS protest.
