The Organised Labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has again rejected the offer of the Federal Government to pay ₦60,000 as new minimum wage for workers, an improvement on the N57,000 offered last week.
Labour is demanding ₦494,000, a difference of N3,000 from the ₦497,000 it requested last week.
While the Federal Government is offering ₦60,000 monthly minimum wage in their latest meeting on Tuesday, Labour was said to have been miffed by the miserly attitude of the government.
Political Economist NG reports that Labour had initially proposed ₦615,000 as the new minimum wage but later reduced it to ₦497,000 last week before proposing ₦494,000 at today’s meeting.
No agreement was reached at the meeting as both parties stuck to their guns after making compromises that neither party agreed on.
NLC President Joe Ajaero once described as “unsubstantial”, the fresh proposals by the government, saying: “It is still not substantial compared to what we need to make a family moving.”
