Scores Feared Dead in Borno Independence Day Blasts as 80 Insurgents Surrender

Admin October 2, 2015

Surrendered-Boko-Haram-e1443736153503While Nigerians were celebrating Independence in peaceful atmosphere is other parts of the country, a double explosion Thursday evening ripped through Maiduguri, Borno State capital in which scores of people were feared dead.

The multiple blasts were said to have ripped through Bulumkutu area of the capital City.

As at the time of filling this report, casualty figures could not be ascertained but scores were said to have died. Security operatives have been deployed to Dala Alamberi in Bulumkutu, Maiduguri where the explosions were said to have occurred.

Meantime in what appeared as another breakthrough on Thursday, no fewer than 80 Boko Haram terrorists surrendered to troops of OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE in Bama, Borno State.

The terrorists among whom were commanders, suppliers and foot soldiers who confessed to have taken part in several terrorists attacks especially on Bama town, Borno State, surrendered as a result of the intense heat and continuous offensive embarked by troops. It will be recalled that military authorities have repeatedly stated that surrender is the only option available to insurgents as the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force in conjunction with other security agencies are totally committed to the achievement of the three months Presidential deadline for the eradication of terrorism in Nigeria.

Consequently, other terrorists have also been encouraged to surrender or face total annihilation. As the new name of the operation states ‘achievement of total peace is a must’.

“Citizens are please requested to continue providing useful information to security agencies that will lead to apprehension of all known terrorists,” Army Spokesperson, Col Sani Usman said in a statement.
