Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Odesanya, is dead

Admin January 31, 2017

Rivers State Police Commissioner Mr. Francis Bolaji Odesanya is dead. According reports, the late CP died Tuesday morning in an undisclosed hospital abroad after a brief illness. Odesanya was deployed to Rivers State as Commissioner of Police in July 2016 as the 37th Rivers State Commissioner of Police. He succeeded Mr. Foluso Adebanjo on July 12, 2016.

Odesanya joined the force on February 2, 1986, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and rose through the ranks to his current position of Commissioner of Police.

His death means that another Commissioner of Police would be deployed to Rivers State which has had a high turnover of Police Commissioners.

The Governor of the state, Nyesom Nwike, had at various times bemoaned the high rate of change of baton among the police top hierarchy in the state, stressing  that such changes gives no room for strategic planning with the police on matters of security.
