In a series of coordinated operations across the country, the Nigeria Police Force has neutralised six bandits, rescued multiple kidnapped victims, including a toddler and arrested key suspects involved in armed robbery, drug trafficking, and attempted murder.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed the operational breakthroughs in an official update released on Monday in Abuja, detailing tactical engagements carried out by command operatives between September 2 and 6, 2026.
Banditry Foiled in Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Niger
Police tactical teams recorded major victories against armed bandits and terrorists operating in northern commands:
Sokoto State: Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Reduction Unit (VCRU) foiled an attack on Yadiya Village on September 6. Four bandits were neutralised during bush-combing operations, with an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 28 rounds of live ammunition recovered. No casualties were reported among security personnel or locals.
Kebbi State: On September 6, Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel on routine patrol repelled a heavy attack by armed terrorists. Following a two-hour gun duel, several attackers were neutralized while others fled with gunshot wounds.
Katsina State: A joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes engaged heavily armed bandits across Bakori Local Government Area (LGA) on September 5, forcing the assailants to retreat and restoring order to the communities.
Niger State: Operatives confronted bandits attacking the Pelegi community in Mashegu LGA on September 6, neutralizing one gunman. Operations are ongoing to rescue five abducted victims and track down fleeing suspects.
Kidnap Victims Rescued in Rivers; Child Trafficking Ring Smashed in Abia
In the South-South and South-East regions, police interventions prevented human rights abuses and secured victim safety:
Rivers State: Operatives raided a hideout at Ogale, Eleme LGA, on September 5, rescuing 41-year-old Kingsley Aleaga unharmed after four days in captivity. Three suspects were apprehended alongside quantities of illicit drugs.
Abia State: Four suspects were arrested on September 5 for attempting to sell a 16-month-old child. Operatives rescued the infant, who is now in protective custody.
Cross River State: Police rescued two severely injured individuals in Calabar on September 5 who were being assaulted over unconfirmed theft allegations. The victims were taken to the General Hospital, Calabar, and the primary suspect was detained.
Swoops on Drug Dens and Illegal Arms Carriers
Efforts to curb violent crime yielded further arrests and seizures in Anambra and Kwara States:
Anambra State: Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives raided a hideout at Umuota Village, Obosi, arresting five suspected major drug dealers. Operatives seized large quantities of cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, cocaine, Colorado, and ₦19,000 in cash.
Kwara State: Joint teams arrested two banditry suspects with ₦770,000 in cash, smartphones, and a locally made bulletproof vest.
Separately, on September 5, police arrested 25-year-old Afolabi Ayomide at Avalon Hotel in Offa for threatening residents with a loaded, locally crafted Beretta pistol.
All matters have been transferred to the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments (SCIDs) for further investigation and prosecution.
