The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested two suspects involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene and its environs.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfom John, disclosed this in a statement, in Uyo on Saturday.

According to the PPRO, command operatives successfully apprehended the two suspects on Friday, acting on a tip-off from reliable sources.

She further noted that during a comprehensive search of the individuals, officers discovered and seized a locally manufactured revolver pistol.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal network allegedly involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene and its environs,” she said.

The police spokesperson stated that a thorough investigation is underway to track down and arrest remaining members of the criminal syndicate, emphasizing the command’s resolve to ensure every individual involved faces prosecution.

She further noted that State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Azare, has reaffirmed the command’s dedication to dismantling organized crime networks and blocking the flow of illegal weapons used to drive violence throughout the state.

“The Command continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest Police formation,” she said.
