The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced provisional locations, venues and dates for its passport intervention exercise in the UK.
This is contained in a statement issued NIS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCI), Akinsola Akinlabi on Monday in Abuja.
Akinlabi said that the intervention followed the earlier announcement on the deployment of a Passport Intervention Team from the NIS Headquarters, Abuja, to the UK.
He said that the deployment, according to the statement, was on the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
He also said the provisional locations, venues and dates were arrived at following consultations with the High Commission of Nigeria and representatives of Nigerian communities in the UK.
He listed London and Manchester as the first locations for the exercise, scheduled for Sept. 7 to Sept. 19.
“In London, the exercise will take place at Layali Lounge, Trent Park, Bramley Road, London N14 4UW, while in Manchester, the venue is Nigerian House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE.
“The exercise will also be held in Aberdeen and Cardiff from Sept. 21 to Sept. 26.
“The venue for Aberdeen is Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen, AB24 4NR, while the Cardiff exercise will take place at Sophia Gardens, Sophia Walk, Cardiff, CF11 9XR,”he said.
The SPRO encouraged eligible Nigerians in the specified locations and surrounding areas to take advantage of the intervention exercise.
He said the exercise was designed to assist Nigerians seeking to obtain new passports, renew existing ones or resolve pending passport applications.
The NIS spokesman advised applicants to apply and make payments through the official NIS Passport Application Portal.
He listed the documents applicants must present at their preferred venue as completed application form, payment slip as proof of payment, appointment slip and a self-addressed return envelope.
“For renewal, presentation of the applicant’s current passport is compulsory,” Akinlabi said.
He warned that applicants who came with cash would not be attended to, stressing that all payments must be made through the designated passport application portal.
He urged applicants to cooperate fully with its officials to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise, while clarifying that all NIS digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System, remained fully operational.
He added that the home delivery service was also available to applicants.

Akinlabi reiterated its commitment to efficient, transparent and responsive passport service delivery to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
