Nigeria’s economy expands by 4.4% in Q2, lifted by oil and non-oil sectors

Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from the 4.23% recorded in Q2 2025, according to a latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released on Monday.

According to the report, the positive momentum was primarily driven by strong performances in the services and agricultural sectors.

Key Highlights

Services Lead Aggregate Output: The services sector maintained its dominant role in the economy, generating 56.62% of total GDP in Q2 2026, up slightly from 56.53% in Q2 2025.

Agriculture Rebounds: Agricultural output posted a notable rebound to 4.39%, rising significantly from the 2.82% expansion seen during the same period last year.

Industrial Cooling: Growth in the industrial sector cooled substantially to 3.96%, down from the 7.46% high recorded in Q2 2025.
