The Association of Nigerians in Diaspora (ANDI), New York Chapter, has condemned the demolition of properties belonging to diaspora investors in Nigeria, calling on the Federal Government to intervene and address their grievances.
Dada described the event, organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), as an insensitive display in the face of growing frustrations among diaspora citizens, particularly those affected by the loss of multimillion-naira investments.
“The 2025 Diaspora Day celebration is not only a misuse of national resources but a grave insult to countless diaspora citizens whose legitimate investments back home are being unlawfully destroyed,” he said.
Dada cited the demolition of WINHOMES Estate in Okun Ajah, Lagos, as a glaring example, alleging that the silence of NIDCOM on the matter contradicts its mandate of protecting Nigerians in the diaspora.
He lamented on the Commission’s leadership of prioritising fanfare and awards over serious engagement with pressing issues.
He noted that such neglect undermined investor confidence and Nigeria’s global image as an investment destination.
“Rather than defending President Bola Tinubu’s pro-investment agenda, NIDCOM is celebrating while diaspora investors count their losses,” he added.
Despite the concerns, Dada commended President Tinubu and the government at all levels for their ongoing efforts to promote diaspora inclusion and investment.
This, he said, was particularly through reforms aimed at improving remittance infrastructure, bilateral partnerships, and recognition of diaspora contributions to national development.
He, however, urged the government to match its policy commitments with actions that protect the rights and investments of diaspora citizens on the ground.
He also called for a public investigation into the demolition of diaspora-funded properties, compensation for affected individuals, and policy reforms to safeguard future investments.
“We also urge the federal government and relevant authorities to treat this matter with urgency. Anything less will be interpreted as deliberate abandonment of diaspora citizens.
“ANDI reaffirms its commitment to promoting justice, transparency, and the protection of diaspora interests,” he said.
