NCos arrest female visitor over alleged drug smuggling in Ogun

Admin August 31, 2026

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Ogun Command, has arrested a female visitor for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Olayinka Odukoya, disclosed this on Monday in a statement issued to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Odukoya said the suspect, Mrs. Iyabo Sowunmi, was arrested at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday during a routine screening at the facility’s main entrance.

According to him, security personnel detected substances suspected to be “Colos”, a psychoactive synthetic drug, concealed inside a sachet of beverage powder.

He alleged that Iyabo intended to deliver the substance to an inmate, Dare Sowunmi, who is currently on death row.

“The suspect was immediately detained following the interception and later handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution,” he said

The Controller of Corrections, Ogun Command, Abioye Adesina, commended the security personnel for their vigilance and adherence to established security protocols.

Adesina said the Service maintained zero tolerance for drug trafficking and other illegal activities capable of compromising security within custodial facilities.

“Our custodial facilities exist to ensure public safety, reformation and rehabilitation.

“We maintain an absolute zero tolerance policy for drug trafficking or any illegal acts designed to compromise security,” he said.

He warned that attempts to introduce contraband into custodial facilities would attract swift legal action.

The controller urged members of the public to respect the integrity of custodial institutions, warning that anyone attempting to undermine security would face the full weight of the law.
