A Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced a 27-year-old motorcyclist, Bashiru Sani, to 30 days Community Service for criminal trespass and stealing.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, ordered Sani to clean the court premises for 30 days and warned the convict to desist from crime after serving his punishment.

Maiwada, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.

Sani who reside at Karmo village near Area Court Abuja was sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and stealing.

The prosecution counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that on Jan. 22, one Inkuze Samaila of Zee Chrest Estate Karmo Abuja reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station for investigation.

Ukagha said on the same day, Sani criminally and smartly trespassed into the estate and made away with six iron rods value yet unknown without the consent of the owner.

She told the court that the complainant caught the convict as he was about leaving the estate with the stolen items.

Ukagha said that during police investigation Sani confessed that he went into the Estate with the intention to steal and the items were recovered from him.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
