The Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai  has led Senior Officers and other dignitaries to observe the Jana- Iza Prayers for the late Maj Gen Idris Alkali (Rtd) at the National Mosque Abuja, Nigeria.

In a solemn ceremony held in Abuja, the army said General Alkali’s death is a great loss to not just his family but the Nigerian army.

It would be recalled that the late General Alkali, who was said to have disappeared under questionable circumstances, reportedly retired a few weeks before he was declared missing on Monday, September 3,  2018, a day after gunmen swooped on Dura-Du, killing about 13 persons.

But the army on September 29, 2018 discovered his vehicle and his personal effects which confirmed his identity and on the 31st of October the Army announced that it had found body parts of the missing general in an abandoned well as proof that the General was killed.

He had received several medals and awards amongst which was the Core Medal of Honour.

His burial Ceremony was held at Gudu cemetery in Abuja, Nigeria on Saturday.
