LASG SENSITISES STAKEHOLDERS ON ENHANCED RESIDENTS’ IDENTITY CARD

Admin March 4, 2022

March 4, 2022

The Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) has commenced an awareness campaign programme on the enhanced features of the Lagos Residents Identity Card (LAG ID) across the five divisions of the State.

Speaking at the programmes held recently in Epe and Ikorodu, the General Manager, Engr. Ibilola Kasunmu, said that the event was organised to educate and enlighten residents of the State on the new features of the LAG ID, its importance, how Lagosians can key into the initiative and be a part of the strategic plan.

She described the LASG ID as a smart card with multiple security features and applications, appealing to all residents to kick off their registration by visiting the LASRRA website: www.lagosresidents.gov.ng after which they will then proceed to any LASRRA Registration Centre nearest to them for biometrics capturing to complete the process for the new residents’ card free of charge.

Kasunmu, who spoke in the Yoruba language, said: “The ID Card comes with a lot of benefits for residents. It will serve as a means of personal security and identity verification at points of accessing various government services, just as it will make access to healthcare services a lot easier for residents.

Also, having the card will grant you access to loan applications, enable seamless payment for transportation on all Lagos State transport services like BRT and LAGFERRY and can also be used for cash withdrawals from ATMs”.

While informing that those who registered before 2018 will need to update their information to get the new ID Card, the General Manager said the ‘New’ Lagos Residents’ Card was designed to drive the smart city initiative to enable efficient planning and distribution of infrastructure and other social amenities among all residents.

In his goodwill message, the Alara of Ilara Epe, Oba Omofolarin Ogunsanwo, represented by Surveyor Adeyemi, appreciated the State government for reaching out to people at the grassroots on the benefits of the new ID Card.

He said the Oba, being a representative of the government, is in full support of the initiative and will keep informing citizens in the area to register for the card.

Also speaking, Mr. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, representing the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Chairman, said information on the new ID card will be well delivered to stakeholders in the Local Council Development Areas.

In the same vein, the Chairman of Ikorodu North Local Government, Mr. Adeola Adebisi Banjo, who was represented by the Vice-Chairman, Mr. Ameen Olawale Apanisile, stated that the engagement was very important because it will go a long way to create awareness amongst residents in different divisions.

The Chairman, Community Development Committee, Ikorodu Division, Alhaji Lukman Shonibare, stated that the benefits accrued to Lagos residents through this project are immense, adding that the Community Development Associations are ready to support the State Government in this milestone achievement.

The two separate events had Traditional Rulers, Chiefs, Community Development Leaders, Heads of Market Associations and residents in attendance.
