The Lagos State Government, through its Office of Physical Planning, has announced commencement of public display and inspection period for the draft Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan (2024-2044).

The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, disclosed this in a statement by the Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the ministry, Mr Mukaila Sanusi, on Wednesday.

The Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan is a long-term plan (20 years) for the development of the Ibeju-Lekki part of Lagos State.

The plan outlines how the area should be developed in terms of infrastructure, land use and other matters.

Olumide said that the draft plan would be made available for the public to inspect, expressing the hope that it would allow the residents and other stakeholders to provide feedbacks.

He said that the feedback could then be used to improve the plan.

“It is imperative to know that public inspection of the draft Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan is in tandem with the state’s culture of citizens’ participation and international best practices in the preparation of physical development plans.

“This is the process that the state government adopts to produce desirable outcomes and bring about community ownership and seamless implementation of our physical development plans,” the commissioner said.

Olumide said the draft plan would be available for inspection at five different locations, including government offices.

According to the commissioner, the locations are – the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja; Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat, Lekki Local Council Development Area Secretariat, Lekki; Epe Local Government Secretariat, Epe; and Lagos State Physical Planning Permits Authority, GRA, Ikeja.

He added that the inspection period would be from Feb. 26 to April 4, during work hours of 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m.

The commissioner urged the residents to actively participate in the inspection and provide feedbacks.

He said after the inspection period, the feedbacks would be considered, and the final Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan would be presented to stakeholders on April 11 at the Lekki Local Council Development Area Hall.

According to him, the presentation will mark the official beginning of the plan’s implementation.
