Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have thwarted a kidnapping attempt, arrested three suspected arms traffickers, and recovered three firearms alongside 300 live rounds of ammunition across multiple operations in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the achievements in an official statement released on Wednesday in Kaduna.
Kidnap Attempt Foiled in Makarfi
According to Hassan, police operatives attached to the Makarfi Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes, responded to a distress call at approximately 1:15 a.m. on September 20 regarding an ongoing attack on a residence in Gimi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area.
The security team engaged the armed assailants in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush. One suspect, 20-year-old Usman Alhaji Dahiru, a local resident, sustained gunshot wounds and was apprehended at the scene.
Police recovered a locally made rifle loaded with three live cartridges, a locally made pistol with one live round, and a bag containing charms. Manhunts remain active to track down the fleeing gang members.
Illegal Firearm Recovery in Gwantu
In a separate operation on September 21 at about 10:00 p.m., operatives of the Gwantu Division acted on intelligence regarding an individual intimidating community members with an illegal firearm.
Officers tracked and arrested Jude Magaji at Ungwan Asibiti, recovering a locally fabricated pistol from his possession. Magaji remains in custody as investigators work to determine the firearm’s origin and potential link to prior criminal activity.
Major Ammunition Bust in Giwa Axis
Further intelligence led detectives from the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit to intercept an arms trafficking syndicate operating around Giwa Local Government Area and the Kaduna railway station axis on September 22.
A targeted surveillance operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a major illegal cache:

The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to trace the supply chain, destination networks, and accomplices tied to the syndicate.
Police Leadership Reaction
Commending the officers and volunteer vigilantes for their swift action and tactical bravery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, assured Kaduna residents of sustained anti-crime operations across the state. He urged the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely, actionable intelligence.
