INEC inks deal with transporters

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has signed an agreement with the National Road Transport Union of Nigeria (NURTW), the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) for effective logistics deployment during the elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, revealed on Tuesday in Abuja that INEC would be needing at least 100,000 vehicles, over 4,000 boats and gunboats for the conveyance of personnel and materials in the 2023 general elections.

INEC explained that the deployment of materials and personnel during the elections comes with huge cost and deployment of security men to accompany the materials and personnel.

Yakubu charged the transporters to be neutral after which both parties signed the papers to seal the agreement.

Every election year, INEC had always partnered with transporters in both land and water ways.
