The Chairman of National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Adamu Fika, has replied the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, saying that the recent appointment of Sani Omolori as Acting Clerk of the National Assembly is irreversible. The NASC is the bureaucracy of the National Assembly mandated by law to conduct the day-to-day administration of the National Assembly.
Saraki had last week written to the NASC to withdraw the appointment of Omolori as Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, saying Mr. Benedict Efeturi, who is Deputy Clerk should be the one to be elevated to the position of Acting Clerk.
But responding to Senate President letter, Fika said reversing such appointment is against the Nigerian Public Service rule.
Presenting a memorandum to the 440th meeting of the Commission held on April 20, Mr. Fika explained that Mr. Efeturi, would soon proceed on retirement leave on August 2.
He said: “Mr. Benedict Efeturi, who presently acts as Deputy Clerk to National Assembly, will also proceed on his three months terminal leave on 2nd August, 2016 days before the end of the current Clerk’s terminal leave.
“It is neither expedient nor in conformity with convention and practices of the Service for an officer who has less than six months left to retire from service to act in a higher office.
“Mr. Mohammed Sani-Omolori, the present Clerk of the House of Representatives who therefore remains the next most senior officer in the services of the National Assembly will remain in service till 2021.”
