The Federal Government has declared a three-day period of national mourning to honor the Nigerian Air Force personnel who lost their lives in a tragic military aircraft crash in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
The declaration was announced on Tuesday in Abuja in a statement issued by Mrs. Eno Olotu, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).
According to the statement, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Olumuyiwa Enitan, expressed deep condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased officers, noting that the national mourning commences immediately on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Flags at Half-Mast and Protocols for Civil Servants
Enitan called on all Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, and federal civil servants across the country to observe the three-day period with the solemnity and dignity befitting the supreme sacrifice made by the military personnel.
Flags at Half-Mast: All Federal Government offices and public institutions nationwide are directed to fly the national flag and other official flags at half-mast throughout the three-day period.
Suspension of Festivities: Non-essential ceremonial, celebratory, and social activities across federal institutions are to be suspended or postponed.
Government Operations: Essential official business will continue, but civil servants are advised to conduct all engagements with due regard for the solemn mood of the nation.
Official Communications: All government publicity, media engagements, and official communications during this period must reflect national mourning and pay tribute to the fallen officers.
Describing the crash as a grave loss to the country, Enitan emphasized that the period provides an opportunity for Nigerians to collectively honor the officers’ memory and demonstrate solidarity with the Nigerian Armed Forces. He assured that the Federal Civil Service stands united with the entire nation in mourning the fallen heroes for their courage and dedication in defense of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
