Evans re-arraigned on fresh charges, case adjourned to Friday

Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans

October 23, 2017

Suspected kidnap mogul, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, ‎on Monday appeared before the Lagos State High Court in Igbosere before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo on charges bordering on kidnapping, murder and illegal possession of firearms. He looked relaxed and calm amid tight security.
He was brought to court by prison officials and heavily armed security operatives who left nothing to chance as they manned the door to the courtroom in combat-ready gear. All persons entering the courtroom were also screened.
The new charges were different from the previous charges preferred against him before the Ikeja division of the court where he was re-arraigned before Justice Hakeem Oshodi last week during which he changed his plea from guilty to not guilty.
Meantime, the court has asked the police to pay Evan’s in-law the sum of N2 million in damages.
Evan’s lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, had argued that his client could not be arraigned until his application challenging the charges and the court’s jurisdiction had been determined. He was referring to an earlier suit filed by Evans challenging the competence of the court to hear the case.
The lawyer alleged that the prosecuting team for the state served him with a reply to the application today, Monday, October 23, hence, he would need an adjournment to reply.
Consequently, Justice Taiwo adjourned the matter till Friday, October 27, 2017.
