Court sacks Ikpeazu as Abia Governor

Admin June 27, 2016

Gov Okezie IkpeazuA Federal High Court sitting  in Abuja has ordered Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State to immediately vacate office for submitting false information to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the party’s December 2014 governorship primary election.

The ruling has sent some parts of the state rejoicing while the Ikpeazu camp went cold, shocked at the outcome of the judgment.

The suit was brought by his fellow party man, Uche Ogar, who contended that Ikpeazu was not the proper candidate of the PDP for the state’s governorship election.

The presiding judge, Justice Okon Abang, in a judgment delivered on Monday, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to promptly issue a certificate of return to the plaintiff, Uche Ogah, who polled the second highest number of votes in the primary.
