An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 40-year-old unemployed man, George Ukpong in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of Ukpong, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until March 22 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Ukpong committed the offence on Feb. 19 at Jaiye Oba Street, Shasha,Lagos.
Ajayi said Ukpong lured the girl into his room and defiled her.
He said that the defendant was caught by some neighbours.
Ajayi said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section stipulates life imprisonment if found guilty. (NAN)
