Commission establishes electricity complaints office in Kebbi

Admin December 19, 2017

December 19, 2017

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has established a consumers’ forum office in Birnin Kebbi to mediate between consumers and the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
Dr Moses Arigu, the NERC Commissioner in charge of Consumer Affairs Division said in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday while inaugurating the office.
Arigu explained that the forum was expected to collaborate with KEDCO and consumers for effective service delivery.
He called on consumers and stakeholders to utilise the office as an outfit that would serve as a complaints outfit for customers to relay their grievances or poor services rendered by the distribution company for rectification.
He said electricity consumers were expected to channel their grievances and issues related to the performance of the electricity distribution company.
He said the commission would intervene on issues that would ensure quality service delivery.
The Managing Director of KEDCO, Malam Garba Haruna, said the company would ensure improvement in electricity distribution.
He lamented that the major challenge facing the company was failure of electricity consumers to pay their bills.
Haruna also said that the company had difficulty of effective settlement of bills by consumers due to illegal connection by consumers.
He called on the commission to support the promulgation of a law that would penalise illegal connection to electricity by consumers.
