Clock Ticks for Aregbesola as Assembly Sets up Committee to Probe Impeachment Petition

Admin July 16, 2015

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola

AregbesolaThe clock is ticking for Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the Osun State House of Assembly has inaugurated a seven-man ad hoc committee to investigate a petition written against him by Justice Folahanmi Oloyede, who called for his impeachment over alleged financial recklessness.

The members of the ad hoc committee to be chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Akintunde Adegboye are mainly members of the All Progressive Congress, APC,

The Committee has two weeks to submit its findings.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salaam, while inaugurating the committee during a press briefing said the committee would be fair and thorough in its investigation.

Mr. Salaam said since the assembly had received the governor’s response, the assembly had no choice than to set up a committee to investigate the allegation.

He said the petitioner and the Governor would appear before the committee to defend the allegation.

The Speaker, however, explained that the non-inclusion of the two members of PDP in the Assembly in the committee would not affect the assignment of the committee.

Reacting to the composition of the committee, a member of PDP, representing Ife Central State Constituency, Mr. Oladejo Makinde said he was not satisfied with the composition of the committee.
