The Nigerian Army on Tuesday organised a five-day workshop on multi-faith collaboration to enhance counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East.

Brig.-Gen. Charles Iroegbu, the Director, Army Directorate of Chaplain Services, said the exercise was organised as part of a training week and retreat to drum up support for troops fighting the Boko Haram insurgents.

The workshop with the theme: “Together in the Battlefield: The Effectiveness of Multi-faith Collaboration in Combating Terrorism,” is also aimed at mobilising grass root support against terrorism.

Iroegbu said that the Army Chaplain Directorate had adopted new techniques to end insurgency by delivering effective services at offices and battlefield.

He disclosed that 21 cadet chaplains were selected for training while four senior chaplain officers undergo executive commissioning training.

The director urged the military authorities to provide utility vehicles and repair obsolete ones to enhance its operations.

He commended the military authorities over the quality leadership aimed at transforming the army and make it more responsive to its constitutional roles.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, said that the military had recorded successes in its campaign against the Boko Haram insurgency.

Represented by Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the Theatre Commander, OPERTAION LAFIYA DOLE, the chief of army staff said the military had step up clearance operations to rid the country of the remnants of the insurgents.

He assured of government support to the troops to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a special prayer session was held for the troops and their families at the Our Lady Queen of Nigeria, Catholic Church, Maimalari Cantonment.

The service was conducted by Bishop, Oliver Dashe, the Catholic Arch Bishop of the Maiduguri Diocese.
