NANS protest rocks Lagos
Members of the Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Monday blocked the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road to protest the lingering strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The students showed their anger by blocking the road and making it difficult to travelers and others to access the airport.
The students had earlier tried to make their way to the airport but were stopped by security personnel who restricted them to the road.
The protesters were led by NANS National Taskforce Chairman, Olumide Ojo; Vice President, External Affairs, Akinteye Babatunde; Public Relations Officer, Giwa Yisa Temitope; Zone D Coordinator, Adegboye Emmanuel Olatunji; Deputy Senate President, Ekundina Elvis; Ondo JCC Chairman, Omotosho Surprise; Lagos JCC Chairman, Olusesi Tolulope Samson; Ogun JCC Chairman, Kehinde Damilola Simeon and Oyo JCC Chairman, Adeleke Quadri Abidemi.
They chanted solidarity songs but remained largely non-violent amid security presence.
“We are not fighting with anybody, all we want is for ASUU to get back to work and for the government to behave well by honouring our lecturers. They have shamed them enough,” said Bello, one of the enraged students.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is to meet with the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) and other stakeholders to find lasting solution to the lingering strike embarked by the union.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Clerk of the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja.
He said the meeting would take place on Tuesday at the National Assembly, the House of Reps wing.
He said the meeting with ASUU and other critical stakeholders was geared towards finding a lasting solution to the lingering strike embarked upon by ASUU
