Assets declaration: Over 1.5m forms completed, returned by public officers – CCB

Prof. Mohammed Isah, Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), says public officers completed and returned more than one-and-a-half million assets declaration forms in the last one year.

He said this on Friday in Abuja at a one-day sensitisation conference for anti-corruption agencies.

Isah, who was represented at the conference by Mr Zephaniah Bulus, Director, Education and Advocacy Services, CCB, said the increase in response by public officers resulted from the rigorous sensitisation the CCB embarked upon in 2022.

He added that the bureau had carried out sensitisation programmes in various ministries, departments and agencies of government in the last seven years with a view to increase awareness and to reduce corrupt tendencies.

Isah noted, however, that more than 1,000 cases being prosecuted by the bureau were still pending and awaiting trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

“This hinders efficiency and output of the CCB,’’ he said.

In his address of welcome earlier, Prof. Itse Sagay, Chairman, PACAC, said the committee had coordinated and harmonised anti-corruption activities since its inauguration in 2015 to achieve better results.

He said one of its achievements was the ability to channel all proceeds recovered from corrupt individuals to government programmes, such as conditional cash transfer and the school feeding programme.

The conference, organised by PACAC had: “Fighting corruption in Nigeria, the past, the present and the future’’ as its theme. (NAN)
