Akpabio says 60% of NDDC contracts were awarded to senators

Admin July 20, 2020

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, has revealed that 60 percent of the Niger Delta Development Commission’s, NDDC, contracts were awarded to members of the National Assembly

The Minister made the disclosure on day four of the public hearing on alleged financial misappropriation at the agency.

The Minister had been invited by the lawmakers on Friday to defend his actions as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and to shed more light on financial misappropriation within the Commission.

According to the him, only three contracts have been awarded since he came on board. “We cannot close down NDDC because of the forensic audit,” he said.

He however noted that the NDDC is where it is today because of lack of monitoring, lack of supervision.
