Night fire guts TCN substation in Kebbi, prospects gloomy
Barely 24 hours after a national grid shutdown which threw parts of the country into blackout, a fire incident has occurred at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) transmission substation in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Thursday.
The teams of the Federal Fire Service Kebbi State Command, Kebbi State Fire, Airport, Rayhaan Rice mills has however successfully extinguished the fire which started around 11:20pm Thursday. The fire was put out around 6am Friday, according to a statement signed by ASF I Israfil Bello, the PRO of Kebbi State Command.
This latest development will impact negatively on power delivery in some parts of the north, analysts say.
Witnesses said the 330 kilovolt (kV) facility was reportedly engulfed in a night inferno which cause was yet to be determined as at press time.
The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident to newsmen.
Just like the latest Kebbi incident, the national grid collapse experienced on Thursday morning was as a result of a fire incident.
